This extension will open the page source in a new tab if you middle-click on View -> Page Source menu on menubar and View Page Source and This Frame -> View Frame Source on context menu.

Changelog:

2005-12-17 version 0.2.1

  • Fixed overlay for localizations.
  • Added right click event to open the option dialog.

2005-12-12: version 0.2

  • Adds option dialog to toggle load tab in background.

2005-12-6: version 0.1

  • Initial release.

Other extensions

Other extensions that also can open page source in tab:

  • Open Source in Tab by Martin Gehrke.
Adds a menuitem on the context menu to view the page source in tab. It has an option to open in current tab or a new tab.
  • Web Developer by Chris Pederick.
Open Web Developer Options, General, and check the View source in a tab instead of a window (the source is not loaded from the cache).
  • MenuX by Mark Bokil.
Customize the toolbar and drag the View Source button.
  • View Source Choice by Brian King.
    Only handles the view-source: protocol.
Type view-source: and the page URL on location bar.
    Example: view-source:http://foo.com/bar.html

One thing that four extensions above are unable to do is viewing a frame source, unless you open the frame in a tab first.

Update:
The new Web Developer version 1.0 now can view frame source.

If you know other extensions that also can view page source in a tab, please let me know. I’ll post the links here.

  1. Singpolyma Says:

Great extension! 🙂 It would be much more useful, though, if there was the option to have the menu-items and ctrl+U actually overriden to use new tab, instead of having to middle-click

  2. Brian King Says:

View Source Choice now has the ability to override View -> Page Source (Ctrl+U).

    See v0.2
